Coimbatore : Industrial organisations in Coimbatore have released a joint statement opposing Coimbatore BJP candidate C P Radhakrishnan's statement that 50,000 MSME units were not closed down due to GST but because industries which were run by people of his age were not able to continue.
Coimbatore : Industrial associations in Coimbatore issued a joint statement today saying that they are deeply grieved by the BJP candidates’ statement regarding the closure of 50000 MSME units.
A statement was issued by TACT (TamilNadu Association of Cottage and Tiny enterprises), KOPMA (Kovai Pumpsets and Accessories Manufacturers Association) and TamilNadu Grill manufacturers welfare association today against CP Radhakrishnan's explanation to the press yesterday. C. P. Radhakrishnan in a press conference held yesterday stated that the units were closed because the second generation went and settled abroad and a person of his age could not continue running the industry and so had to close down.
The statement reads, "Election for constituting the 17 th Loksabha will be held day after tomorrow. We think that GST and Demonetisation brought by the BJP government will have a sure impact on the voting decisions.
The Tamil Nadu Industries Minister had tabled a report in the assembly saying 50000 units were closed and 5 lakh people lost jobs due to GST and Demonetisation. Even during the last few days of the assembly session Tamil Nadu Deputy Speaker Thambidurai had criticised that due to the central government’s move, micro and small industries in the state were destroyed.
But after the alliance was announced between AIADMK and BJP they are completely twisting the facts. Truth is thousands of people lost their jobs in Coimbatore and many micro and small industries were closed down.
This closure of industries has affected the ruling party. Initially CP. Radhakrishnan said its true that there are some problems due to GST and they will set the problems right once they are elected. He also promised to bring down GST in the engineering sector from 18% to 5%. Even the Prime minister while campaigning in Coimbatore mentioned that the problems in GST will be addressed and changes will be brought in. But now the BJP candidate made a statement that none of the industries were affected and the industries were closed down because the next generation settled abroad and person of his age was not able to continue running the industry.
C. P. Radhakrishnan before few days said that only people who were doing businesses outside the purview of law were affected by GST.
His contradictory statements have deeply grieved us. Instead of accepting their mistake and taking measures to correct the mistakes, the BJP candidate is making contradictory statements which has created a mistrust among the micro and small industries."
